I WANT TO PLAY HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER AND DREAM OF PLAYING COLLEGE SOCCER
Hi my Name is Samantha and I am a current 8th grader at Mill Valley Middle School. I am a good student and work very hard to get good grades. I really like art and Science. I play for Marin FC soccer club in Marin County, California. I feel so blessed to be playing with this team and at such an elite level for my age. The coaching is great and we play really competitive teams. It’s very fun and exciting for me.
My History – Adversity and Success
This fall (2014) has been a little rough because I got a bad concussion during practice and was sidelined for almost 2 months. I missed a lot of school and had to slowly work my way back into the classroom and make up a ton of missed work to get my grades back up. It was really hard. I also had to sit on the sideline’s which is something I’m not used to doing. Once I was cleared to play I jumped right back into training. It was so nice to be able to play with my team again. They are like family and having to sit on the sidelines has been really hard.
I love playing soccer! I have loved playing since as long as I can remember. My mom says “ball” was my first word. The things I learn on the filed carry over into all aspects of my life. Being a member of a team has brought so much to my life. I always work hard, I am dedicated, I am determined to be my best self and to not let others down. I know this will serve me well when as I continue on through high school and college. I have dreams of going to Stanford and playing soccer on the women’s team while working towards becoming a doctor. I want to be able to help others and make a difference in my community.
MY 2014 GOAL
My 2014 Goal is to continue improve my goal keeping skills, to increase my strength training, and continue to keep my box empty. Next year when I go to high school I hope to be a starter on the Varsity team in the spring of 2016.
WHAT I NEED TO SUPPORT MY DREAMS
I need my moms continued support. She is my quiet sideline supporter and I always know she is there for me. I never have to wonder whether she is there or not – I just know it. She encourages me constantly, and wants me to have fun and achieve my dreams. However, being a team member of Marin FC is expensive. We travel a LOT, sometimes even out of state and it is definitely a financial hurdle for my mom. I think my mom is cool, she is a hard worker, and is looking for work since she just graduated from grad school. In November our team going to San Diego, and early next year we are going to Las Vegas, not to mention all the weekly driving to practices and games. The cost for gas, air travel, hotel, food and equipment is expensive.
I know this scholarship from Protex Sports Foundation will really help. It will allow me to continue to play soccer, travel with my team and help me pursue e my best self and to not let others down. I know this will serve me well when as I continue on through high school and college. I have dreams of going to Stanford and playing soccer on the women’s team while working towards becoming a doctor. I want to be able to help others and make a difference in my community.
